Chiado's Shapella Hardfork
Gnosis Chain’s Chiado testnet will hardfork on 24 May 2023 at 12:12:00 UTC, Epoch: 244224. 🔥🔥🔥
Gnosis Chain’s Beacon Chain architecture means that compatibility with Ethereum is locked in. That means all future EIPs can be implemented on Gnosis Chain. It also means that Gnosis Chain upgrades can be implemented on Ethereum, should it prove to be valuable to the broader ecosystem.
Core devs continuously push upgrades from the Ethereum mainnet onto Gnosis Chain. The most immediate being the Shanghai and Capella upgrades to shadow the Ethereum roadmap. As the first initial step towards completing the upgrade, Gnosis Chain’s Chiado testnet will hardfork on 24 May 2023 at 12:12:00 UTC, Epoch: 244224.
If you're a validator on Chiado, the upgrade requires a number of steps to prepare your nodes. Below you'll find a resource guide and steps for running a Chiado node if you'd like to support the testnet.
For the CLs, here are the versions we need to run:
It should just work with the built in Chiado network:
`consensys/teku:develop`
`chainsafe/lodestar:next`
Require custom config files:
`sigp/lighthouse:latest-unstable`
`statusim/nimbus-eth2:multiarch-v23.5.1`
For the ELs, these are the versions:
`nethermind/nethermind:1.18.1`
`thorax/erigon:develop`
Latest Nethermind’s release is crucial as we prepare for the upcoming Shapella hard-fork. We highly recommend that you update promptly to ensure seamless network operations after the fork. Check Nethermind v1.18.1 update
Shanghai will enable GNO staking withdrawals for Gnosis Chain, as opposed to the current model which does not allow for staked GNO to be withdrawn. Shanghai is the name given to the execution layer (EL) upgrade and Capella is the name of the coinciding consensus layer (CL) upgrade. Shapella refers to the combination of both Shanghai and Capella into a single name.
